We gave children iPads and laptops.
And then wondered why engagement, attention and retention became harder.
Here’s the uncomfortable truth.
Some of the best learning still happens on boards, not screens.
Study after study shows that children learn more effectively when ideas are visible, shared and constantly reinforced. Display boards and collaborative classrooms create deeper understanding in ways that endless screen time simply can’t.
📍 Learning becomes active, not passive.
📍 Key concepts remain visible.
📍 Discussion and collaboration increase.
📍 Knowledge sticks.
Technology matters.
But IT(!) should support great teaching, not replace it.
And let’s not forget our teachers.
Never has the profession been tougher.
Teachers are expected to educate, inspire, manage behaviour, navigate technology, complete endless admin and support wellbeing, all whilst delivering outstanding outcomes.
As leaders, perhaps we need to stop asking, “What more can we digitise?”
And start asking, “What helps children learn best?”
Because sometimes the most powerful learning isn’t on a screen.
It’s right there on the wall.
